I lost my dad, Matti Dyani, in August. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. While the final chapter of his life was filled with pain, that’s not how I want to remember him. Today, I want to share a bit about the amazing man he truly was.
A gifted hairdresser and a passionate musician, my dad had both creativity and soul running through his veins. He had an incredible eye for beauty—whether it was through the perfect cut and color for a client or a riff he played with effortless emotion. Music and style weren’t just careers for him; they were extensions of who he was.
My dad had this calming energy about him. He had a way of making people feel seen, comfortable, and at ease—whether they were sitting in his chair at the salon or sitting next to him while he strummed his guitar. I like to think I get some of my compassion and patience from him, and I hope I carry that part of him forward.
He had a big laugh, an even bigger heart, and always found a way to crack a joke—even in tough moments. He had style, warmth, and a quiet strength that grounded everyone around him.
Even near the end, he never lost that spark that made him Matti. He gave love freely and fully, and he never held back a compliment or a kind word.
He was a beautiful presence in our lives—a father, a friend, and for many, a kind of quiet hero. Losing him has left a hole, but also a legacy: one of love, music, and grace.
So today, I honor him. Here's to guitars, good hair days, deep conversations, quiet strength, and loud laughter.
Here’s to Matti Dyani—my dad, my role model, my forever source of love.
